Singapore Open Email Services for Residents, 2012

SINGAPORE - The Singapore Government will provide access to citizens to correspond with government agencies. Services 'OneInbox' is planned to be launched in 2012.

"These services allow you to personally korepondensi with the government," said a spokesman for Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) as reported by DigitalOne, Sunday (06/20/2010).

OneIbox, not only can be used by Singapore citizens, but also foreign nationals residing in Singapore. Currently, Singapore occupied more than approximately up to now has approximately five million people, including foreign nationals.

Email sender will receive an alert via SMS when their email has been sent to the service. IDA is a breakthrough step to help reduce paper usage in business correspondence with government agencies. "Through integration with e-OneInbox services from government agencies, allowing individuals and businesses to conduct transactions with the government immediately after receiving electronic mail." The IDA spokesperson said.

This service will be kept confidential and secure, and users can connect an email account OneInbox to personal email and mobile phone numbers. Government agencies can confirm receipt of correspondence and bill payment.

However, users will not be able to utilize OneInbox email account for personal purposes, such as sending regular email to a friend. This service will mostly be used for matters such as payment of tax payments, extension of stay permit and payment of traffic fines. Singapore estimates that 83 percent of the population has a home computer with internet access.
