The big news for Microsoft at E3 is Project Natal, now officially called Kinect. But rumors of a slim version of the Xbox 360 console are still being heard, and now an advert showing an image of the new machine has appeared.
The ad was shown on the Italian gaming website console-tribe.com, but was quickly pulled down. The slim version of the console is said to include WiFi as standard, have a 250GB hard drive, and be compatible with Kinect.
With Microsoft’s E3 conference happening later today we don’t have long to wait to find out if this is real.

Looking at the image above, the machine looks a bit strange with the bend near the power button. It also looks less than stable standing on its end like that.
Saying that though, the updated spec would be welcome. WiFi as standard is a must, and the base hard drive of 250GB is long overdue. Trying to squeeze extra money out of consumers for a WiFi peripheral and overcharging for hard drives just angers gamers. To say you are cheaper than PS3 while doing so adds insult to injury.
With a 360 slim Microsoft could bring its console bang up-to-date. Of course, the one thing that will remain missing from the package is a Blu-ray drive, and without it the PS3 will always have an advantage. If Microsoft has managed to make a red-ring-free machine that’s quiet I’m sure it will sell a fair amount of new consoles, though.
