Who is Abu Bakar BaAsyir?

Founder and caregivers Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, was arrested Monday (08/09/2010) this morning in Ciamis, West Java. He allegedly associated with terrorist actions in Indonesia. Who is Abu Bakar Ba'asyir?

Abu Bakar Ba'asyir bin Abubakar Abud or commonly called Ustaz Abu was born in Jombang, August 17, 1938. He has been a boarding school student Gontor, Jombang, East Java, graduating in 1959 graduated from the Faculty of Da'wa and Al-Irsyad University in Solo, Central Java, graduating in 1963.

Ustaz Abu had become an activist Muslim Students' Association and was appointed Secretary of the Youth Solo Al-Ershad Solo. In 1961 he was elected Chairman of the Indonesian Islamic Youth Movement, Chairman of the Students Islamic Da'wah Institute, and led the Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin, Ngruki, Solo, Central Java, in 1972. Upon their return to Indonesia from Malaysia, Bashir became chairman Indonesian Mujahidin Council Organisation (MMI), the year 2002.

Ba'asyir founded the Pondok Pesantren Al-Mukmin, Ngruki, on March 10, 1972. Which later became known as Pondok Pesantren Ngruki was founded with Abdullah Sungkar, Yoyo Roswadi, Abdul H Qohar Matase Daeng, and Abdullah Baraja.

Boarding School is an area of 8000 square meters located at 72 A South Ivory Street, Village Ngruki, Sukoharjo, Central Java. The arrest was not the first time. In 1983, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir was arrested along with Abdullah Sungkar by the New Order government. He was accused of inciting the people reject the sole basis of Pancasila. He also forbade santrinya do respect the flag because according to him was to shirk. In court, both sentenced to nine years in prison.

But in 1985, Ba'asyir and Abdullah Sungkar fled to Malaysia when they were placed under house arrest. Ba'asyir in Malaysia was cited establish a radical Islamic movement, Jemaah Islamiah, which is in a relationship with Al Qaeda. However, Abu Bakar Ba'asyir was never acknowledged the existence of Jemaah Islamiah. And it does not prove all the allegations that the accused told him. This is happening at this merely a ruse to cover up the bad guys and it is an act of intelligence.
